IN MEMORIUM

IN MEMORIUM
Khaliqur Rahman
1959
I saw a young bud bloom
And fall to dust
And meet its doom.
It could not stand
Even to the breeze
That blew to caress!
The fellow buds
Redden in grief.
The flowers with dew-drops
Weep at the sudden death.
The drops fall
Over the fallen petals.
But the breeze soon soaks it.
Many a rose falls
And the Spring
With fresh flowers
Coaxes to forget
What is but past.
Still there remains
A feeling of
Old grief and past gloom.
The bloom has met its doom.
Swapan Kumar Sur , my classmate, first year college, 1959, died of Leukaemia.
